Ice Merchants

Every day, a father and his son jump down a cliff from their cold cottage at the top of a mountain using a parachute to sell ice clogs they produce themselves in the village at the foot of the mountain. Portuguese filmmaker João Gonzalez uses that set-up to tell a story of loss and trauma while also subtly addressing climate change.

The beautifully animated Ice Merchants travelled the world and now has a chance to win an Academy Award. The film already feels like a modern classic and is reminiscent of Michael Dudok de Wit's successful Father and Daughter (which effectively won an Oscar at the time) in terms of its set-up and impact.

Ice Merchants is part of Best of Shorts 4 at Anima. Win two tickets for the screening on Friday 24th of February at 19h00 in Flagey, Brussels.
